here we have an HNW tribute to one of my favorite books, a clockwork orange by anthony burgess.

stanley kubrick's film version is easily one of the greatest book-to-film adaptations in existence, but don't make the mistake of passing on the novel - it's a well-written and insightful satire with a unique take on linguistics that all make for a great read.

plus, the versions available today feature one final chapter that was not in the version kubrick read and subsequently didn't make it into his adaptation.

that final chapter really upends the rest of the novel (and the film, as well), forcing the reader to question all that came before and whether or not those short-sighted pleasures are worth the long-term sacrifice.

all of the material in this massive tribute is exactly what you'd expect - an endurance test filled with a huge variety of tones and textures that combine to create a dark, disorienting, and draining - but nonetheless thrilling - experience...much like the novel itself.

I'm pretty sure copies of this are all gone, but no matter what, do yourselves a favor and pick up a copy of this book...you won't regret it.

and I'll save the discourse on kubrick's adaptation for another time...

  1. What?

There's a "new" final chapter? Why didn't I know that? It's easily one of my favourite books (my copy is very old!). Totally agree with your opinion of the film as well btw...

And, then you drop this massive bomb?

    Genius!

    Massive thanks ...

    1. I wouldn't necessarily say that it's "new" - it just wasn't in the early american versions.

but thanks for reading, my friend.

  2. I've been searching for the edition of CO that has the nadsat glossary included. there are british and american versions that are different. one has the final chapter omitted, other doesnt, glossary too. Apparently there is a restored edition now too.
Kubrick read the edition with no final chapter (American?) and wasnt aware there was any more to it...
Anyway. Parts 3 & 4 of your downloads are telling me they are infected with malware. what up with dat?
