here's the second wóddréa mylenstede demo, also on legion blotan and also not available (digitally, at least) anywhere else online.

it has the same murky production of the first demo and other legion blotan releases, but while the first one was merely good, this second one blows it out of the water - the songwriting is much more mature and there are actually a couple of melodies and riffs buried under the static that really tie it together and make it feel like an album instead of a mere demo.

needless to say, I'm really looking forward to whatever these guys(?) put out next.

stop by legion blotan here to pick up a copy. they're located in the UK so shipping might be a little pricier than usual, but they've got a ton of great releases and need your support.

here's the first stellar descent release, accretion, on tape courtesy of eternal warfare.

limited to 150 copies on clear tapes with gold liners, this should appeal to anyone who likes panopticon, fall of rauros, or alda.

this one long track (that I've split into two sides for convenience) is great stuff - lots of peaks filled with shrieking chaos juxtaposed with valleys of ambient, acoustic emptiness.

if you like it, please pick up a copy through eternal warfare here while it's still available.

two years.

"Two Years"

19:32

Dir. Thomas D. Rotenberg

Black & White, 2010

here's the full version of my first film, a short entitled "two years."

it tells the story of two brothers - one has a traumatic brain injury while the other is tasked with caring for him.

as always, here are a few stills:

comprised of three scenes plus non-linear bookends, it stars russ russo, lynn mancinelli, and jacob reynolds (the star of "gummo" and my writing partner), and was produced by steve holmgren, one of my former co-workers at the (sadly) defunct hdnet films.

it also features original music by my good friend and fellow NYU graduate dave campbell.

in 2010, the film was selected for both the new york independent film & video festival and the hoboken international film festival, where it was also nominated for best short film.

jacob and I also have a feature in post-production entitled "all one moment" (the trailer can be seen here), as well as several other projects in various stages of development.

(watch it on vimeo here.)

(like it on facebook here.)

experimental cinema.

here are two experimental films of mine from 2010.

lately, the terms "experimental" and "avant-garde" have been increasingly used to apologize and cover up for inept editing and camera work, instead of a subversion of prevailing cinematic paradigms.

so these were my attempt to restore meaning to those important but diluted terms.

the first, "no way out," is a kaleidoscopic visual interpretation of nature, rot, and violence.

here are a few stills:

(watch it here on vimeo.)

the second, "fragments of memory and longing," is an examination of how time and place interconnect with memories and emotions.

it also features my wonderful and talented girlfriend, chantelle joy fuoco, whose expression in the last shot is just perfect.

again, here are a few stills:

(watch it here on vimeo.)

and I have a couple more that might get done some day...maybe.

new name and url.

so I've decided to change the name of the blog and the URL to something a) more original and b) more appropriate.

sorry for any confusion.

several new posts are incoming...

the first wóddréa mylenstede demo on legion blotan - couldn't find it anywhere else, so here it is.

it's typical of the other legion blotan releases - noisy, chaotic, discordant black metal from the uk.

enjoy it and support the artist and especially the label - they have tons of great releases that are more than worthy of your dollars. or pounds, or euros, or whatever.

sounds of the underground.

for my first film-related post, here's a documentary I worked on that finally received distribution this year.

sounds of the underground, directed by bryant botero and executive produced by my writing partner jacob reynolds, documents the lives of a wide variety of performers whose stage is the new york city subway system.

jacob might look and sound familiar - he starred in harmony korine's cult classic, "gummo," with chloe sevigny in 1997.

in production since 2006, jacob finally secured direct-to-dvd distribution a few months ago.

check out the facebook page for the trailer, an interview with jacob and bryant, signed posters, and more.

you can buy a copy of the dvd here.
